I pumped my MacBook into these for music for an outdoor BBQ and was blown away how loud they went. The woofer makes a big difference on the low end, 20-150hZ.I picked up a Bose Solo TV Speaker a few years ago - didnt like it for the TV so repurposed it as my go-to computer speaker - awesome sound within the smaller desk space - remote with bass control - Bluetooth enabled - and with its small 21 x 2.5h The Acoustic Energy sub + sats are blooming excellent for the money. Sound is pretty decent, but not as good as my 12' Infinity speakers downstairs. Old school 80 watt RMS stereo receiver as amp. Polk Audio 5' midrange and tweeter, and an 8-10' woofer in a box that they call a subwoofer. All plugged in through headphone port.Excellent sound quality and good controllable base. Also I think the remote volume control has a line in and headphone jack, making it quite nice for testing, iPod/MacBook connection when I need it, and also the mute facility (tap the top) is a nice touch.Anyone got the Bose speakers? I've got the Bose 5's - Have to say VERY pleased them. Not sure if there's a big improvement stepping up to the 5's and not sure where I can go to audition (think they're just as cheap in shops). The volume conrol is very smart, touch sensitive to turn on/off and rotary for volume. I had upgraded from Altec Lansing and really noticed the difference. I've got the Bose 5's - Have to say VERY pleased them.Excellent sound quality and good controllable base. Most Apple stores have them if you need an audition or couple of places in London I could recommend if you are up that way.If you check my AV set up in the link below you will see them in my Home/Office set up Mind you this is what I would really like to audition and get next but just can't find them anywhere on demo. Best Speakers Mini Mac OS Ie KeyboardI've just got a Bose Companion 3 Series 2 from my local KRCS. And you can select it from there as output device etc. All you do is plug the unit into the a spare USB in the iMac and the whole thing just works.The Bose will appear in your Sound settings within System Prefs. I guess all I am really doing is adjusting the OS volume rather then the Bose remote but the affect is the same. Yes you can,either using the Mac OS ie keyboard, or volume icon in task bar at top OR to be honest when I use iTunes or Front Row, I can use the Apple remote or even my iPhone (using Remote software) and when I use EyeTV I can use the remote. Best Speakers For Mac MiniCurrently sat under my desk towards the left, but you can't mistake that the bass is coming from there. Sub placement is everything though. They also go bloomin' loud and easily will fill a room larger than my office (9X9). Wonder what they're gonna be like when they're run in. And you can select it from there as output device etc.
